TIE | UNITE: Space as an NGO Tool-Kit
Graduate Studio 3
This preparatory thesis studio asked graduate students to research a non-profit organization that needs to create a communal node/structure/kiosk no larger than 27 cubic meters which addresses a specific shelter, educational, health, nutrition, economic, ecological or social need. They select a society or culture where this NGO or non-profit provides services for or has targeted as the next population to be in crisis.
During the 10 week class students investigate the NGO’s or non-profit’s organization and conducted in vivo and literature reviews addressing the specific needs explored and develop problem statements addressing the issue chosen. Students approached the design brief with the understanding of the site context, shipping and construction logistics and availability of local materials for their design. Three precedent studies considered structure/space types currently used to address the issue with similar populations to your target culture.
